โ€” BEFORE RACE DAY โ€”

๐Ÿ“ฆ Package Pickupย

Saturday, June 13 | 11amโ€“3pm |
RBC Branch, 2381 E. Hastings (Hastings & Nanaimo)

The RBC team is hosting package pickup this year โ€” and they've got activities and games in the lobby for waiting families. Come say hi!

Head upstairs to the Board Room. Look for signs and a friendly volunteer. You can enter from the front or back of the branch.

Your package includes:

  • Race BIB โ€” wear it on the front of your race clothing, or on a race belt at the waist. It can be scrunched gently to make it flexible. Bib clips are included with instructions; safety pins also work. Your bib must be visible and secure throughout the entire race.
  • Bike Plate โ€” attach to the front of your handlebars. Confirm the number matches your BIB.
  • T-shirt โ€” guaranteed if you registered by May 15, size based on your registration selection. If you registered after May 15, size and quantities are limited, no guaranteed shirts.
  • Info sheet and sponsor materials

$15 late pickup fee applies on race day. Saturday pickup is strongly encouraged.

Parking note: East Van is busy this weekend โ€” Italian Days on the Drive and FIFA World Cup at the Exhibition Grounds. Walk, bike, or bus if you can. If driving, park near Templeton and walk over. The large lot behind London Drugs on Hastings is a good option.

๐Ÿšฒ Saturday Clinics & Bike Checksย

Saturday, June 13 | 12โ€“4pm | Templeton Park

Come walk or ride the course, get your bike checked over, ask questions, and arrive on Sunday feeling ready. Totally informal โ€” drop in between noon and 4pm.

โ€” RACE DAY PREPARATION โ€”

๐Ÿ–Š๏ธ Body Marking

Body marking means writing your race number on your body in waterproof marker (Sharpie) or grease pen so race officials can identify you out on the course.

BODY MARKING STATIONS ARE SET UP AT BOTH PACKAGE PICKUP AND RACE DAY, and a Volunteer will assist you. You may also do it yourself before arrival at the race, using the following guidelines.

At minimum, mark:

  • One upper arm
  • The calf on the same side

You're also welcome to mark the other arm, other calf, and upper back.

Important: Numbers must be written VERTICALLY and large enough to read easily from a distance. Do NOT apply sunscreen or body lotion before marking โ€” it will smear.

๐Ÿ“‹ Your BIB & Times

Your BIB has three key times printed on it. These are YOUR times โ€” specific to your wave.

  • Set-Up Transition Time โ€” the latest you should arrive to rack your bike in transition
  • Pool Marshal Time โ€” when to be lined up at the pool entrance, ready to swim
  • Estimated Start Time โ€” when your race begins

Transition opens at 6:45am. You may arrive earlier than your listed transition time, but not before 6:45am.

๐Ÿ“ธ Photos & Opt-Out

BibPIX will be on site photographing the race all day. Post-race, photos will be available to purchase and are searchable by bib number โ€” we'll share details after the event.

Photo opt-out: If your athlete does not wish to be photographed, request an opt-out wristband at package pickup on Saturday or at the Activity Room on race day. The wristband must be worn visibly. BibPIX uses advanced technology to remove banded athletes from all photos.

๐Ÿ“ต No photography is permitted inside the pool area at any time.

โ€” Racing Details โ€”

๐Ÿšฒ Transitionย

Transition is the fenced area in the middle of the field โ€” it's where your bike lives during the race. Look for the big banners marking each gate.

  • Setup entrance: WEST gate โ€” walk your bike in. No riding through this gate.
  • Bike exit & re-entry: Southeast corner โ€” divided by a fence, one side in and one side out.
  • Run exit: Northwest side of the transition fence.

Rules:

  • Your race gear stays with your bike โ€” arrange it as compactly as possible (we suggest bring a small bin or bag to contain everything. BCGames racers may receive penalties for untidy/disorganized transition!)ย
  • Anything not needed for the race stays with your family outside transition.
  • Parents are not permitted in transition at any time. (Exception: Excite and Excel athletes may have one buddy โ€” see your division email for details.)
  • A certified, properly fitting helmet is required. No helmet = no race, no exceptions. See below for helmet details.
  • Toe cages and clipless pedals are not permitted โ€” feet must be able to come free of the pedals quickly and easily.

ย

๐ŸŠ The Swimย

The swim takes place at Templeton Park Pool. Athletes swim in lanes and follow the direction of lifeguards and volunteers on the pool deck.

Marshalling: When it's time for your wave, head to the pool entrance ready to swim โ€” suit on, goggles and swim cap in hand. You'll line up in bib number order on the pool deck and receive your timing chip here. The chip goes on your ankle.

โš ๏ธ The pool viewing area gets very crowded. If your athlete is not currently swimming, please exit the viewing area to make space for other families. Everyone deserves a chance to watch!

๐Ÿ“ต No photography is permitted inside the pool area. This rule is strictly enforced and signage will be posted throughout.

Spectators may enter and exit through the outside or lobby doors โ€” volunteers will direct you.

๐Ÿšฒ The Bikeย

The bike course runs on closed roads around Templeton Pool and School. The number of laps varies by division โ€” check your division email for your specific distance.

Counting your laps: Athletes are responsible for counting their own laps. A helpful trick: put one piece of tape on your handlebar for each lap you need to complete, and remove one as you finish each lap. Only try this if you're comfortable briefly riding with one hand!

Mount and dismount: There are designated mount and dismount lines โ€” follow volunteer directions and the signage on course.

๐Ÿƒ The Run

The run course follows the sidewalk around Templeton school. The number of laps varies by division โ€” check your division email for your specific distance.

Exit transition at the northwest gate and follow the course markers and volunteers. Keep going until you cross the finish line!

๐Ÿค The Buddy Programย

One of our favourite Tri-it Tri traditions โ€” athletes in Enigma, Less Extreme, and Extreme (ages 12โ€“19) are warmly encouraged to stay after their race and be a buddy for younger athletes in Excite and Excel (ages 4โ€“7).

Buddies can support athletes on the swim, bike, or run. Come to the pool deck by 10:15am if you'd like to participate.

This is what community looks like. ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ The Finish Line

Keep running (or rolling, or toddling!) until you cross the finish line!

A volunteer will greet you and help remove your timing chip โ€” please return it immediately.

  • โš ๏ธ Timing chip must be returned. A $75 fee will be invoiced if not returned.
  • Collect your finisher medal ๐Ÿ…
  • Choose a prize from the prize table
  • Grab a snack and celebrate โ€” you just did a triathlon!

๐Ÿ“Š Results & Awards

Results will be posted as they are finalized at:

excelerationtriclub.ca/tri-it-tri-results

QR codes around the site will take you straight there.

๐Ÿ‘€ For Spectators

Welcome to the best live event in East Vancouver! ๐ŸŽ‰ Here's how to make the most of your day:

  • Spectators are welcome to watch from the grass anywhere along the course โ€” there are great sightlines all around the route. CHEER YOURSELF HOARSE ๐Ÿ˜€ but please no cowbells or noisemakers before 9am. We like our neighbours. ๐Ÿ˜
  • Follow all volunteer instructions. Our volunteers are there to keep everyone safe โ€” please heed their directions at all times.
  • Exercise caution when crossing sidewalks or the road โ€” the bike course is active throughout the morning.
  • Stay off the race track except in designated spectator areas.
  • The finish line area is at the west end of the field โ€” the best spot to cheer!
  • The pool lobby has a viewing area for the swim. Please exit if your athlete is not currently swimming.

๐Ÿ“ Getting There

Templeton Park Pool โ€” 700 Templeton Drive, East Vancouver

It's in a traffic calmed neighbourhood, so there are twists and turns and one-ways and diversions. Give yourself extra time due to the very very busy weekend around town (FIFA and Italian Days are the same weekend!)

Parking is very limited. We strongly encourage walking, biking, or taking transit.

  • Street parking in the surrounding neighbourhood โ€” please be respectful of residents
